SIGHT WORDS: Are you helping your child with their sight words? We will be having a WHITE sight word party in November. Please work with your child so they are able to join us for this fun day! If your child has already passed their white words, please make sure to review them at least once a week.
AR TESTING: Your child is required to read and test on 2 AR Library books per week. I am so proud of those students who have tested on 2 or more books a week. We even have a few students testing on 4-5 books a week! That is AMAZING!!!!!
LETTERS & SOUNDS: We are working hard on our letter identification and sounds. Please review letters and the sounds they make with your child. This will help them with their sight words as well as making them better readers and writers.
HANDWRITING: Please look over all of your child’s work that is sent home. Handwriting will be on the report card when they become first graders. We want to correct their handwriting from the start to better help them in the future.
NUMBERS: We have been working on the numbers 1 through 20, their value, and how they are written. Review numbers with your child as much as you can. This as well as letter identification can be done in many simple ways such as asking them what number/letter is on a restaurant menu, street sign, magazine, and even around the grocery store. Reviewing these can be done in a fun way… not just drilling them at the kitchen table.
